SPIRIT OF THE SEAS, August 16-20, 6:30-8:30 pm.  Lots of help is needed to make this years VBS a wonderful success.  Volunteers can help with food, set-up, crafts, and clean-up each evening.  Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday will have a lesson and crafts.  Wednesday night will be special for the whole church with "Banana Boat Ice Cream Sundaes" along with the lesson and crafts.  So again you help is needed to bring in gallons of ice cream and tons of toppings.  Friday night will be a final "Splash" with a moon bounce (plus other activities), cotton candy, and water balloons.  We will end with a cookout - hamburgers and hot dogs.  So you can sign up to bring side dishes, desserts, drinks, paper products, condiments, etc.  This will be a week of fun shared by all!
Children receiving their trophies for memorizing their bible verses

Current Lessons -

On Friday, 16 July, the children made posters for the upcoming VBS.  There were 15 children in attendance.  Sandy Williams provided food from Pizza Hut.

On Friday, 2 July, Mike and Erika Cox did a game show asking the children questions about the 10 commandments.  Edna and Sindy prepared the meal of tacos and cupcakes.

On Friday, 18 June, Dawn taught 26 children on being faithful (do not commit adultery).  Rose and David Portillo provided the meal.

On Friday, 4 June, Rev. Jen taught 18 children on the tenth commandment - Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's (You shall not Envy).  How not to be jealous and desire what someone else has, but to be content with what God has given you.  Sandy Williams provided the meal.

On Friday, 14 May, Chris Gill taught the children on the nineth commandment - Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour (Thou shall not lie).  A little lie is no different than a big lie.  In God's eyes, a lie is a lie.  The meal was provided by Jenny and Frank Baumgardner.  There were 23 children in attendance.

On Friday, 7 May, Erika and Mike Cox taught the children on the eighth commandment - Thou shalt not steal.  Dawn Petterson provided McDonald's, and Judy and Mary brought cupcakes for Dawn's Birthday.

On Friday, 23 April, Phyllis Powers taught the children on the The Invisible Seal of God.  She explained how the kings of the Bible all had seals they used - and how we all have the invisible seal of God, the Holy Spirit, on our lives.  She showed examples of seals like the President's seal and a wax seal on a letter (made with a candle, a match, and the seal).  Christine Young provided Subway sandwiches, chips, and cookies - enjoyed by 13 children.

On Friday, 9 April, Sindy Molina taught the children on the sixth commandment - Thou shalt not kill.

On Friday, 26 March, Ms. Christine taught 17 kids on the fifth commandment - Honor thy father and thy mother.  On Palm Sunday the following children were presented with trophies for passing the memory verse test:  Serenity Baumgardner, Dina Cazun, Jacob Cox, Estuardo Molina, Rolando Molina, Chamey Richardson, Joshua Rodriguez, Ashley Steele, Brianna Steele, and Briana Williams.  The two younger children Micah Cox and Ben Rodriguez received medals.

On Friday, 12 March, Ms. Dawn taught 14 kids about the fourth commandment - Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy - set aside a special day for God.

On Friday, 26 February, Kelly and Chris Gill taught 15 kids about the third commandment - Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain - 'the best way to not use God's name is just don't get in the habit of doing it".  The children then placed prayer requests in the boxes as the adults did last Wednesday night in starting 40 days of prayer and fasting.  Ms. Dawn prepared the meal.

On Friday, 12 February, Rev. Jen taught the children on the second commandment:   Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing.  The children will also have a Valentines Party.

On Friday, 29 January, Christine Young taught the children on the first commandment:   Do not worship any other gods.

On Friday, 15 January,  Moses made an appearance to teach the children about the Ten Commandments.

Vacation Bible School:  Three words best describe this years VBS:  "A Great Success".  It was a true blessing to see the team work together in love, unity, and spirit of cooperation.  A meal was provided each evening; the kids then enjoyed wonderful Bible stories, illustrations, and lots of interaction.  There were also crafts and challenging games with spiritual emphasis.  A total of 42 children attended over the five nights.   The picnic on Wednesday night, designed especially for the kids and their parents, was wonderful with over 80 in attendance.  The highlight was when the children and parents threw water balloons at Chris, Mike, Rev Jen, and Pastor.

Proverbs 22:6 - Train [teach] a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it. (NIV)

We have a team of leaders who are dedicated to serving, teaching and directing the young people in this ministry.  They are all united in their desire to teach the children the word of God and Godly principals that the children will be able to use not only today but for the rest of their lives.  Our hope is that these children will not only learn lessons about God, but that they each begin and continually develop a personal relationship with God that will continue to grow and mature through out their lives.

Service Information

Our services are held on every other Friday and they begin at 7pm and end approximately 8:30pm- 9pm.  Parents are welcome to stay if they would like.

Though every service can be different we do have a basic Order of Service.  We begin every service with the Pledges (the American and Christian flags and the Holy Bible) and the Lords Prayer.  Then we begin our worship service, which normally consist of 2-3 songs.  Children are allowed to share their memory verses.  We then take up an offering. After the offering the lesson begins.  When the lesson is over, all the children are prayed for.  Then they will be directed to either a craft and then dinner or dinner and practice for a special song or dance.  Then the Children are dismissed.

Dinner

There are people within our church who have generously offered to provide dinner and drinks for the youth at every service.

Memory Verses

We do have a list of memory verses from A-Z that the children are able to memorize on their own time.  If any child has memorized a verse they will share it on Friday night and will be given a sticker to place on their chart.  After each 5 stickers the children will receive a treasure from the treasure chest.  We currently have 7 children who have 5 or more memory verses.

Special Song or Dance

The special songs or dances will be practiced for a period of time on Friday night services, and will be performed at a Sunday Morning services.

The children danced for us on February 15, 2009 during the morning worship service.

The children enjoyed games that were prepared by Ms. Faith at the Hearts of Joy Luncheon.
